The Last Letter From Your Lover | Netflix Movies 2021 | Jojo Moyes
The Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes, Movie Review |
If you like a movie that helps you feel some emotions and rejuvenate the fantasy romance ideology, it could be your cup of tea. “The Last Letter From Your Lover’' is a 2021 movie based on a globally famous writer's, Jojo Moyes, book with the same title. She has given us pure, beautiful, and tragic stories like 'Me Before You', and 'After You' already.
Meanwhile, this story could be considered as their follower. The
movie’s plot can easily be deduced from the official trailer. A contemporary
journalist, Ellie, emotionally destroyed and hopeless with life, is looking to
write a profile feature on a recently deceased editor. To gather in-depth
information about the subject, she must convince a reserved archivist, Rory, to get
access to the archive. As soon as she gets into it, they discover a long-lost love letter written to an unknown person is referred to as ‘J.’ from the person
apparently named ‘the boot’.
As the contemporary flirtation is sparked
between them, we keep getting flashbacks from the 1960s. From the time when
Jennifer Stirling (J.) is returning home after her stay at the hospital amid any
yet undiscovered incident. She supposedly suffers from amnesia as her husband
reminds her, ‘you call me larry’ when she calls him by his name,
Lawrence.
She apparently remembers nothing except her best friend who assures her of the perfection and stability in her life. However, she doubts that. Irrespective of everything going smoothly, she feels something different, something missing. The feeling is reassured the day she finds a hidden letter from someone ‘B.’ - and that excites her and triggers some memories from her forgotten but not so far past.
In the meantime, the story moves in two parallel timelines.
We witness two love stories packed in one screen, overlapping each other quite
beautifully.
As far as the acting is concerned, starring actors
like Shailene Woodley – Jennifer, Callum Turner – Anthony O’Hare aka Boot,
Felicity Jones - Ellie, and Nabhaan Rizwan – Rory, and in the
direction of Augustine Frizzell, the film is bound to move you every once in a
while. Moreover, the costumes and theme sets were on point as well.
However, despite all such accuracies, it somehow
lacked some element. Not to say that it was not effectively portrayed or
played, it wasn’t like the previous story by the same writer, Me Before
You. Probably, a reason could be our unrealistic high hopes from the
writer to bring another tragic, tearing love story that makes us cry to our ends,
and restores our faith in love. It could also be the music, as the producers
are different, or directors. Anyhow, whatever the reason might be, the impact
can also be seen in a visible difference in ratings of both the movies on
rotten tomatoes and IMD.
Besides that, I would still recommend the movie. It
could be the best source of inspiration and get a good sight of pure love and romance. So, coupled with some hot snacks and a partner, it could be your
option at chill or rainy evening.
Genre: Romance/Drama.
The movie is released on Netflix in 2021, based on a
total 1hr and 50 mins. It is still streaming on the platform and can be viewed
easily.
Written in sequence, as the story moves on, I felt my self watching movie. It's worth reading. I suggest beginners first read this review tjen read the book or watch the movie.
